8 mini-studios on a small lot in a residential neighborhood contribute to an organization’s network to help end the cycle of homelessness for youth
The creative and expert use of tools available from Los Angeles Zoning and Planning allow for no parking and eight 300 sf studios for at-risk and unhoused youth ages 18 to 25 to be built on a typical small residential lot in Los Angeles’ Boyle Heights neighborhood.
The homes are designed to function as a component of the residential and 360˚ support services network that the non-proft social enterprise has throughout the neighborhood, including Housing, Education, Health, Employment and Trauma Recovery services.
The units, though compact, are light-filled, naturally ventilated and fully equipped with kitchenettes, full bathrooms, storage, sleeping and work areas. The outdoor spaces provide multiple opportunities for community interaction while maintaining a sense of privacy and individuality.
