Rimpau ADU

This new free-standing ADU had to do triple duty—as an entertainment space open on 2 sides to the existing house and garden; as a home office and space for quiet contemplation; and as an occasional guest house for visiting friends and family. Working with the existing architectural language of the house was not only a client mandate, it was required by the Planning Department. Matching roof pitch and Spanish tile treatment, incorporating corbels, a decorative trellis and a series of arched windows all made the project a perfect fit for the main house and the neighborhood. Warm wood floors, tile finishes and large bi-fold glass doors complete the picture. A pizza oven speaks to the unit’s main role as an entertainment space, while the Murphy bed on the second floor allows the office and guest house functions to coexist.
